Building A Community Through History
Northwest Arkansas African American Heritage Association is committed to preserving and documenting the heritage of African Americans in Northwest Arkansas. We conduct research about settlements in Benton, Carroll, Madison and Washington counties.
Some of the research allows us to document gravesites, homesteads and housing areas where the living history of African Americans has virtually disappeared.
Research includes anecdotal information from life-long residents, government records and other archival sources. Some of this critical research is being conducted through oral histories of surviving elder African American descendants of slaves.
